Experimental Geographies

"There is tenderness only in the coarsest demand: that no-one shall go hungry any more" – Theodor Adorno, Minima Moralia (1974: 156)

Spaces of Alterity Conference at Nottingham, April 27-28

All the details can be found here. I’m really looking forward to participating in a roundtable on “conceptualising counter-hegemonic space.” I’ve not been asked to prepare a written paper but have put together some notes in which I link up my own research on squatting and other occupation-based practices to the composition of workable spaces of alterity. This is, to be sure, a conceptual/theoretical issue as well and I do hope to say something about what it might mean to constitute a political ontology of protest (via Guattari and Negri among others). This remains a pressing predicament and, as a geographer, I believe it demands a particular spatial grammar  (this is something that geographers, with a few exceptions, have neglected in recent years). More on all of that tomorrow.
